  • will completing the program help build credentials toward your future career

  • what are your rights and responsibilities as a student with the institution

  • is the program eligible for student funding

Tuition Refunds & Withdrawal Policies

REFUNDS

All Private Career Colleges are required to issue a fee refund within 30 days in many cases outlined below. You should check if the private career college specifies the timeframe of their refunds in the refund policy attached to your contract. There is also a cooling-off period of two days after signing the contract.

Any compulsory program fees and optional program fees approved by PCC are covered by the refund policy.  For students who would like a refund for textbooks and materials they have purchased from the Academy must return them:

  • in the same state they were in when supplied to you

  • within 10 days of withdrawing

All refunds are in Canadian Dollars.

The Academy cannot deduct money from a refund you are entitled to for a program if you owe money:

  • to the private career college for other services

  • for other non-vocational programs offered by the college

The refund policy applies when you withdraw from a program or are expelled, so long as you are expelled in accordance with the college's expulsion policy

Cooling-off Period

You can cancel a contract for the provision of a vocational program within four (4) days of signing it if you provide written notice to the private career college. It is important to keep a copy of your written notice. You are entitled to a full refund of fees paid for the program, including any application fee, from the college.

Full Refund After Signing Contract
If a student, enrolled in a program withdraws from the course before the registration deadline, no fees will be assessed. If the course change results in a registration status change, no fees will be assessed.  Students are given registration deadlines upon submitting application forms.  The "cooling off" period applies strictly to receive a full refund.

Partial Refund After Program Begins

For course withdrawals after the Registration Deadline, the effective date of the withdrawal is the day the faculty receives the withdrawal form. Students who register and then cease to attend or never attend without formally withdrawing will not be eligible for any refund of fees nor will they be exempt from paying assessed fees that are unpaid.

It is the student’s responsibility as a student to contact Alberta Student Aid to cancel the loan/funding by calling 1-855-606-2096.

If the student would like to follow through with the termination of their contract after the vocational training begins, the Institution is entitled to the payment of tuition fees as outlined in
Section 17:

(1) If a student contract is terminated after the vocational training begins, the Institution is entitled to the following amounts of the tuition fees:

      (a) When 10% or less of the vocational training has been provided, 25% of the tuition fees;
      (b) When more than 10% but 50% or less of the vocational training has been provided, 60% of the tuition fees;
      (c) When more than 50% of the vocational training has been provided, 100% of the tuition fees.

(2) If an Institution has received tuition fees in excess of the amount that the Institution is entitled to under subsection (1), the licensee must refund the excess amount.

REFUND PAYMENT

Should the student require a refund of tuition, they must email finance@aga-academy.ca

For International Students, you can cancel a contract with a private career college or withdraw from a program for any reason. The same refund policy for domestic students applies to you.

International Students Unable to Get a Student Visa
A rule applies to an international student unable to obtain a student visa to enter Canada. As long as you deliver a written notice of this fact to a private career college before half of the portion of a program has passed, you are entitled to a refund of fees paid for the program.

Application fee of $115.00 non-refundable

Registration fee of $500.00 is fully refundable

Withdrawals

The above tuition refunds apply to all withdrawals

If a student contract is terminated after the vocational training begins, the Institution is entitled to the tuition refunds stated above.

There are 3 ways a student will be considered withdrawn:

a) 3 Consecutive unexcused absences, withdrawal by Academia - Students must attend classes on a regular basis.  Should the student not attend 3 consecutive classes without notifying their instructor or their facilitator, that student is deemed academically inactive. Their status must be reported to Student Aid or IRCC (Immigration & Refugee Citizenship Canada - for International students).  Should a report be made that the student is no longer attending classes, it may affect the status of their student loan or their student visa with IRCC.

b) Withdrawal by student - Should the student decide to terminate their contract with the Institution of their own volition, for whatever reason, a Withdrawal Form needs to be filled out and signed by the student.  Download & fill out the document below and send it to studentsupport@aga-academy.ca.
